Ninja Tune invites Seven Davis Jr to BBC1's Essential MIx

25 years in the dance industry is an amazing achievement, and not many can boast that sort of longevity. The UK’s Ninja Tune label joins that exclusive club this year by celebrating exactly that milestone, and in recognition they have been invited by Pete Tong onto the Essential Mix as his next guests, a very high accomplishment indeed: in the past not too many labels have been given this opportunity (in fact, we are hard pressed to think of any other labels that has been invited).

And in true Essential mix-style this is one to listen to right now. Ninja Tune founders Coldcut took control of the first half of the mix, while up-and-coming Ninja Tune signee and Let Them Eat cake artist, Seven Davis Jr, were tasked with the job of completing the 2nd hour. What followed was an old-school ride through some of the labels’ finest moments alongside Coldcut’s personal favorites, proceeded by an eclectic hour from Seven Davis Jr taking in all sorts of house and beats. The tracklist features some amazing cuts including a fair few productions from SDJR himself and fellow Cake artist Machinedrum (recently in the news for his excellent new remix of a Body Language track).

And as expected this mix is all sorts of awesome... Have a listen to the mix on the BBC site right now…
